1. quote / quotation

在日常生活中，两者可以换着用，都作“引用” 的意思

但严格说来，前者为动词，后者为名词

quote. vt. 引用

May I quote you on that? (verb)

我可以引用你这句话么？

quotation. n. 引用

I used a quotation from Dr. Johnson as an epigraph. (noun)

我借用了Dr.Johnson的语句作为铭文。

在语法书The Chicago Manual of Style 上备注了，区分这两词与否算是大众用法（common usage）与 用得好（good usage）的区别。

2. quiet / quite

quiet . adj. 安静的

Tania kept the children reasonably quiet and contented.

塔妮娅把孩子们料理得安心而满足。

quite. adv. 很，相当

I felt quite bitter about it at the time.

当时我对此感到相当痛苦。

3. reign / rein

reign. vt. 主宰

…Henry II, who reigned from 1154 to 1189.

…1154年至1189年在位统治的亨利二世

rein. vt. 驾驭

He was determined to see the party keep a hold on the reins of power.

他决心要确保该党继续执掌政权。

4. raise / raze

raise vt. 举起，升起

He raised his hand to wave.

他举起手来挥动。

raze vt. 夷为平地

Dozens of villages have been razed.

几十座村庄已被夷为平地。

5. real / really

real. adj. 真实的

really. adv. 真实地

这组词是再常见不过了，然而在口语中，前者经常替代后者，以作强调用，所以在写作时候，切勿把real当作副词使用，那将是不恰当的。
