我们的阅读老师和考生交谈时，会发现艾易艾斯(aeas)考生在阅读考试中，往往会把相似的英语单词混淆。

1. noisome / noisy

noisome. adj. 恶臭的

His noisome reputation for corruption had already begun to spread.

他腐败的臭名已经开始传开了。

noisy. adj. 吵闹的

The baggage hall was crowded and noisy.

行李大厅拥挤而嘈杂。

2. observance / observation

observance. n. 遵守

Governments should use their powers to ensure strict observance of laws.

县政府应该利用他们的权力确保法律的严格遵守。

observation. n. 观察

She has good powers of observation.

她有很强的观察力。

3. obsolescent / obsolete

两者意思很接近，都是指过时的，只不过前者是正在被淘汰，而后者是已经被淘汰。

obsolescent. adj. 逐步淘汰的

…outmoded, obsolescent equipment.

…陈旧过时的设备。

obsolete. adj. 已经过时的

So much equipment becomes obsolete almost as soon as it’s made.

很多设备几乎刚制造出来就过时了。

4. ordinance / ordnance

Ordinance. n. 法令，条例 （一般指地方性的）

…ordinances that restrict building development.

…限制楼房建设的法规

ordnance. n. 军火

…a team clearing an area littered with unexploded ordnance.

…一个在四处留有未爆炸武器的地区排爆的小组。

5. palate / palette / pallet

palate. n. 味觉，口味

The palate might not be able to discern that sixth variant of mint.

我们的味觉根本分不清六种不同的薄荷味。

palette. n. 调色板

The painter’s right hand holds the brush, the left the palette.

那位画家的右手握着画笔，左手拿着调色盘。

pallet. n. 托盘，货板

The warehouse will hold more than 90,000 pallets storing 30 million Easter eggs.

仓库里有9万多个托盘，存放着3千万个复活节彩蛋。
