2016年3月出现口语部分新题,其中有些Topic实在让考生爱不起来。自从来到墨尔本,主要靠消费华人超市的我们,描述起来澳洲的特色食品,就是用汉语也要冥思苦想一丢丢,然而考场给的1分钟准备时间,然并卵还是累计在日常更稳妥见效。
1. Fairy Bread.
Despite the fact that it confuses the rest of the world, fairy bread is probably the food invention that we are most proud of. Basically grab a slice of white bread, spread with butter, and top with 100s and 1000s. You can’t have a kid’s birthday party without a plate, but that’s not to say it’s not for adults as well.
除了让全世界为之迷惑不解以外,Fairy Bread应该是最让澳大利亚人引以为傲的食物了。只需要一片抹上黄油的白吐司,再撒上五颜六色的糖珠。孩子生日会上必不可少,大人们也是相当喜欢哦!
2. Lamingtons.
It’s essentially a sponge cake coated in chocolate and coconut, sometimes with jam in the middle. You’d be hard pressed to find a bakery in Australia that isn’t stocked with lamingtons, probably because they’re the best mid-afternoon snack around.
其实这只是一块海绵蛋糕外边粘上巧克力和椰蓉,有的时候里便会夹果酱。你很难在澳大利亚的烘焙店里买不到这种蛋糕,因为他是下午茶最好的选择。
3. Tim Tams.
Yes, they’re now available in a few places in the USA, but they just aren’t on the same level as Aussie Tim Tams. Though they do come in a range of flavours (shout out to chewy caramel), we all know that original is always the best. Oh, and you haven’t lived until you’ve done a Tim Tam Slam.
不错,在美国的一些地方你可以找到类似的东西,但是他们不可与澳大利亚Tim Tam同日而语。即使他们有很多种味道可选,而且呼声最高的是焦糖味道。但是我们都知道原味是最好的!对了,你们一定要尝试如下方式哦~~
4. Milo.
Milo is basically malt powder to be mixed with milk, but don’t let that disgusting description fool you; Milo is the drink of the gods. It’s important to get the milk/Milo ratio just right. But when we were younger and mum wasn’t looking, it was all about trying to heap as much Milo in as possible.
Milo其实就是发酵的啤酒花混合着牛奶~~但是千万不要被这种恶心的描述迷惑哦;Milo是饮料界的皇~~上~~。掌握好牛奶和Milo的比例非常重要。年少时期母上大人不看着的时候,那我们就能放几勺放几勺呃。
5. Vegemite.
If you grow up eating Vegemite, it’s impossible not to love. But that’s because we Aussies know the CORRECT way to enjoy it. Don’t eat it by the spoonful like it’s Nutella, it’ll only make you hate it. Spread it with butter on toast, and it’s the perfect breakfast.
如果你是吃Vegemite长大的,那你肯定一定对它是真爱。因为只有澳大利亚人才知道怎么正确的吃Vegemite。不要像吃Nutella一样吃一大勺Vegemite,那样的话你只会更厌恶它。和黄油一起涂在面包上,那是你早餐的好选择。
6. Vanilla Slice.
Another snack you can find in any decent Aussie bakery, Vanilla Slices are light and creamy enough that you can probably justify having two. They’re done best with super-flaky pastry, but honestly, it works well no matter what.
另外一种在澳大利亚高大上烘焙店可以找到的零食就是香草夹心酥,香而不腻软化绵绵的感觉你可能会一次吃两块哦。一定要特别酥的千层酥才能制作最好吃的香草夹心酥,事实上,怎么地都好吃。
7. Golden Gaytimes.
Ha ha, yes it’s a funny name. OK, now we’ve got that out of the way, Gaytimes are actually a very superior ice cream. The ideal blend of honeycomb ice cream with biscuit pieces, it’s the best thing to eat after a long day at the beach.
名字好污哦。。。好吧,我们不谈这个名字先,Gaytime其实是一个非常高端的冰淇淋。蜂糖与曲奇合适的搅拌而成,最适合在海滩得瑟一天以后来一支。
8. Cherry Ripe.
Australia’s oldest chocolate bar is honestly still one of the best. It’s like a Bounty with Cherries, but doesn’t suffer from the cherry flavour curse of tasting like medicine.
Cherry Ripe是澳洲历史最悠久的巧克力,一直以来是最好吃的。它很像Bounty巧克力加入了樱桃,但是并没有樱桃那种类似于药品的味道。
9. Party Mix.
It’s pretty near impossible to get the ideal ratio of good lollies to crap ones, but no matter what, you end up eating the whole bag anyway. Either that or there’ll be someone near you to eat all the ones you don’t like.
要想把好吃的糖与不好吃的糖做个合适的配比应该是个大难题,但是无论怎样,你最后应该都会把他们吃掉。或者是你旁边那位可以把所有你不喜欢的都吃了。

Sample Answer 1: (希腊菜)
I love food, so it is hard to think of just one favourite sort. However, if I had to choose, I can think of something that I like to have as a special treat from time to time. I’m going to tell you what the food is, how it is made, why I like it so much and explain to you what makes it my favourite food and maybe even convince you that you would like it just as much as well – if you haven’t already discovered it for yourself.
The food is quite simple. I’ve always thought of it as a Greek speciality, although others tell me it actually originates from Egypt. Can you guess what it is? Houmous. I love it. The food is spelt differently in American English – they call it hummus and in British English we spell it with an ‘o’ and a ‘u’ as opposed to just the ‘u’ but the recipe is the same in either case.
Basically, it ismade from cooked, mashed chickpeas blended with tahini, olive oil, lemon juice, salt and garlic. It is popular throughout the Middle East (including Turkey), North Africa (including Morocco), and in Middle Eastern cuisine around the globe, but it is also extremely popular with me, although I’m very particular about the sort I buy. I live near a wonderful delicatessen, it is run by a friendly couple, he is Italian and she is vintage Yorkshire. They make their own houmous with only the finest quality virgin olive oil and huge quantities of the best fresh garlic they can get hold of. It’s pretty expensive, but I love it, and it’s better than my own attempts for some reason, I don’t know why, it shouldn’t be so hard to make.
Why do I like it? I think it is partly the texture, and partly the taste, I love garlic. Also, because I’m vegetarian it is a very healthy food, with lots of protein and quality fats that are good for you. Of course you can have too much of a good thing, but I think it’s well worth it.
It is my favourite food not only because it is absolutely delicious, but also because you can share it with other people. It is best eaten as a dip, with friends. I cut up lots of carrots, cucumber and celery into crudités carefully sliced to make a colourful dish, perhaps with some slices of warm pitta bread too. A nice bottle of white wine helps. We can then all sit together enjoying the fresh humous dip, sipping our glasses of wine and laughing and talking to put the world to rights. It is a great way to enjoy a fabulous food.
Model Answer 2: (印度菜)
My favourite food is fried rice with vegetable and chicken curry with salad. This is in fact the most popular menu in our country. The rice is first boiled in water and then the boiled rice is fried with some chicken and vegetables and oil. The chicken curry is prepared separately using some spices and chicken and finally the salad is prepared using different vegetables and fruits and then those are cup into pieces and mixed together with mustard. Then these three items are served together.
I eat this menu approximately 3-4 times in a week. This menu is prepared at home mostly and sometimes I eat it in a restaurant. There are some variations in the way this food is prepared and the ingredients using which this food is made. Different restaurants have their own specialty in preparing and serving this menu.
This is my favourite food for many reasons: firstly it is very delicious and healthy. This menu meets the demand for different food values our body needs. It is available in most of the part in our country. Thirdly, I like it as it offers the variations of tastes. Moreover, it is not that much expensive to prepare and does not require o much effort to prepare. For all these reasons it is my favourite food.
